During the birth of Skanda-Kārtikeya (Skanda-Kartikeya), the erected energy of Lord Śiva (Siva) was first collected and held by Agni, and then , by Gangā (Ganga). The son came out of Gangā’a womb, and was brought up by the six Kṛttikā (Krittika). So he is called Kārtikeya. Again, since the god of Agni was the first to collect the erected energy, Skanda-Kārtikeya is also known as Āgneya (Agneya).
