Ṛṣija (Rishija) was the youngest among the sons sired by Maharṣi Aṇgirā , and born of the womb of Surūpā. In Purāṇa, he is defined as a mantradraṣṭā (mantradrashta; seer of the sacred hymns) ṛṣi (rishi; sage). Maharṣi (Great Sage) Ṛṣija was one of the gotra-pravartaka (founder of clan) sages of the vaṁśa (vamsa; genealogical or disciple-wise lineage) of Aṇgirā (Angira).
