According to Matsyapurāṇa (Matsyapurana), Ṛṣivāsa (Rishivasa) is one of the sons sired by Vasudeva, and born of the womb of Devakī (Devaki) . Ṛṣivāsa was one of those six sons whom Kaṁsa (Kamsa) killed . This son of Devakī is referred to as Ṛjudāsa (Rijudasa) in Viṣṇupurāṇa (Vishnupurana), and he is mentioned as Ṛjudāya (Rijudaya) in Brahmāṇḍapurāṇa (Brahmandapurana). In Vāyupurāṇa (Vayupurana), the name is read as Yajudāya (Yajudaya).
