The vaṁśa(vamsa; genealogical or disciple-wise order of sages) of ṛṣi (rishi; sage) Asakṛt (Asakrit) is one of the ṛṣivaṁśa(s) belonging to the vaṁśa-pravara (vamsa-prabara; clan) of Maharṣi (Maharshi; Great Sage) Bhṛgu (Bhrigu), as mentioned in Matsyapurāṇa (Matsyapurana). He is referred to as a gotra-pravartaka (clan-founder)belonging to the order of Bhṛgu.
